How Do We Show Children They Are Enough?

My one word for this year is ‘enough’. As I was writing the post about my one word for the year, I pondered how it’s a great word for children as well.  Children need to know that they are enough, just as they are. That nothing they can do, or not do, could make you love them any more or any less than you love them already.  We need to show children they are enough just as they are. Do kids really learn by doing?

I parented in an era when letting kids ‘learn by doing’ ruled. When I measure my parenting by this mantra, I failed. I had one child, and she liked doing things with me. She liked me to show her how to do things, so I did. Continue reading “Do kids really learn by doing?”

What’s Your Fragrance?

When it comes to perfume I’m a floral girl, and for many years ‘Paris’ by Yves St Laurent or ‘Beautiful’ by Estee Lauder have been my go to fragrances. I didn’t realise how significant fragrance was until I smelled ‘Devon Violets’ one day and was instantly drawn to memories of my late grandmother. When one of my daughters was away from home for a while, she took with her something she had sprayed with my fragrance to give her comfort during the separation. To her, my fragrance meant warmth and love. What’s your ‘fragrance’?

Your opportunity to make a difference- Friends of MOPS Australia

What does MOPS mean to you? What difference has it made in your life? I think over my own involvement with MOPS since my daughter was born in 2011. MOPS was a place of refuge where I built long-lasting friendships. Then it became a place where I could bring the unique parts of myself to make a difference for others and grow as a leader. Maybe you can relate and love being a part of your local MOPS group. Perhaps your days of being actively involved with MOPS are over but you still cherish those memories and relationships. We have created the Friends of MOPS Australia program for you. Continue reading “Your opportunity to make a difference- Friends of MOPS Australia”

Appreciating ‘Mum’

How special do you feel as a Mum when your kids choose to tell you how much they love you? It’s usually on Mother’s Day, when someone gives our kids an opportunity to produce a card or gift. We receive cards with loving verses expounding our virtues. Truth be told though, it can often be another 12 months before anyone even thinks about it again, let alone puts pen to paper to express it. But appreciating ‘Mum’ is something we can do anytime.  Continue reading “Appreciating ‘Mum’”

Seasons of motherhood

There are joys, frustrations and concerns throughout the different seasons of motherhood. From being a clueless first time mum with a newborn to a mum with a toddler & a baby to raising school aged children, teenagers and young adults. There are joys and challenges that come with each stage. Though as our children and families grow, we mums grow as well. When you’re struggling to deal with one young child and you realise you are pregnant, you may think ‘How am I going to cope’? But the second child comes along and you cope because you grow and adapt to meet the challenges of this new season. Continue reading “Seasons of motherhood”

Marriage and Romance

In the chaos and logistics of raising a young family, it can be easy to get lost in the never ending to-do list (like feeds, laundry, nappies, and cleaning). We can easily forget to keep the romance alive in our marriage. It’s Valentine’s Day, so why not take a look at our round-up of posts on marriage and romance. Continue reading “Marriage and Romance”

A call to be ‘All For Love’ for 2022

It’s the end of a long year. It has been filled with ongoing uncertainty, huge challenges, opportunities for creativity and a reminder of the importance of connection with each other. The 2021 MOPS theme ‘Decide to Rise’ was the invitation we gave to MOPS groups- to ‘be strong’, ‘do your work’ and ‘chase joy’. Now, for 2022, we put out the call to be ‘All For Love’. Continue reading “A call to be ‘All For Love’ for 2022”

Family traditions

“I love blowflies”….said no one ever! But that’s what my 19 year old daughter declared to me in early December last year. What blowflies had to offer I just couldn’t fathom! But she proceeded to tell me in one long sentence without even a breath how they remind her of family traditions; “I love blowflies because it’s warm and it means it’s nearly Christmas and that’s when we make gingerbread together and play Christmas music and have our Christmas Eve BBQ and we’re together and it’s just awesome!”. Summer School Holidays

Term 4 is almost done. The countdown to Christmas is on. So we all know what that means; summer school holidays!! Six weeks of not making lunches, no school/kindergarten drop offs, and if you’re lucky, the odd sleep in. And whilst all these are great, entertaining little ones who are used to the planned activities of kindergarten, playgroups or MOPS can take it out of us. So here is our roundup of articles to inspire and encourage you these summer holidays. Continue reading “Summer School Holidays”
