How Do We Show Children They Are Enough?

My one word for this year is ‘enough’. As I was writing the post about my one word for the year, I pondered how it’s a great word for children as well.  Children need to know that they are enough, just as they are. That nothing they can do, or not do, could make you love them any more or any less than you love them already.  We need to show children they are enough just as they are. Problem or opportunity for growth?

Life presents us with challenge after challenge. Some days I feel strong and resilient in the face of these challenges. Other days knock me down. I’m guessing you have experienced the same. The draw is to give up, stay in a negative mindset and play the victim. I am working on a shift in my language. I recognise that growth opportunities are embedded in every challenge in life. Problem or opportunity for growth. Which holds more hope? Continue reading “Problem or opportunity for growth?”

Surviving the tough stuff of love

We often go through different seasons as we grow and get older. Along with those seasons comes surviving the tough stuff of love. This can be hard when for some of us we are doing just that, surviving. Continue reading “Surviving the tough stuff of love”

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be awesome

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be awesome. It’s one saying that I’ve come across and love. Sometimes, in the imperfect moments of motherhood, there is still so much fun and joy to be found. Continue reading “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be awesome”

What’s Your Fragrance?

When it comes to perfume I’m a floral girl, and for many years ‘Paris’ by Yves St Laurent or ‘Beautiful’ by Estee Lauder have been my go to fragrances. I didn’t realise how significant fragrance was until I smelled ‘Devon Violets’ one day and was instantly drawn to memories of my late grandmother. When one of my daughters was away from home for a while, she took with her something she had sprayed with my fragrance to give her comfort during the separation. To her, my fragrance meant warmth and love. What’s your ‘fragrance’?

Appreciating ‘Mum’

How special do you feel as a Mum when your kids choose to tell you how much they love you? It’s usually on Mother’s Day, when someone gives our kids an opportunity to produce a card or gift. We receive cards with loving verses expounding our virtues. Truth be told though, it can often be another 12 months before anyone even thinks about it again, let alone puts pen to paper to express it. But appreciating ‘Mum’ is something we can do anytime.  Continue reading “Appreciating ‘Mum’”

A HAPPY New Year

In mothering, we can be overwhelmed by many things – the weight of responsibility, uncertainties, our perceived failures, the ‘aloneness’, and frustrations. We may be angered by the way our kids speak to us; and we may regret how we speak to our kids. We can easily lose our happy selves. And if it’s not the kids, it can be something else, like Covid! So thus year I have decided to have a HAPPY New year. Continue reading “A HAPPY New Year”

Seasons of motherhood

There are joys, frustrations and concerns throughout the different seasons of motherhood. From being a clueless first time mum with a newborn to a mum with a toddler & a baby to raising school aged children, teenagers and young adults. There are joys and challenges that come with each stage. Though as our children and families grow, we mums grow as well. When you’re struggling to deal with one young child and you realise you are pregnant, you may think ‘How am I going to cope’? But the second child comes along and you cope because you grow and adapt to meet the challenges of this new season. Continue reading “Seasons of motherhood”
