We have come to the end of another MOPS year, and what a year it has been! It can be easy to pull back from life in the midst of the turmoil, loss and uncertainty that seemed to fill this year. The lessons of this year’s theme ‘To The Full’ were needed more than ever. The elements of ‘Have more fun’, ‘Fear less’ and ‘Find your people’ spoke to our greatest needs. They may have been applied in our lives in ways we never imagined, like finding our people through online meetings, but that did not lessen the potential impact on our growth and health. As we farewell this year, take a moment to reflect on how these lessons impacted you. And as we look ahead to 2021, let’s ‘Decide to Rise’.
We are all looking forward to this year ending. And yet we know that the problems of 2020 don’t magically disappear when the clock ticks over into 2021. This new theme ‘Decide to Rise’, while planned long before the events of this year unfolded, is what we need for this next season. The foundation of this theme is the truth that you are fearfully and wonderfully made– you were made on purpose and exactly who you need to be. The second truth is that you were made with a purpose- you have meaningful work to do in this world, at this time. This foundation holds three elements that we will be diving deep into over the MOPS year ahead.
This is your year to get strong- both physically and mentally. We need the strength and stamina to do all that we are made to do- like chasing around our kids, helping out a friend, fulfilling your role in an organisation or serving in your community. This may mean putting in the effort to build up your body. Maybe it is the time to call that counsellor and make an appointment. We will embrace our whole self this year- body and mind.
Do Your Work
I know that work is probably the last thing you want to focus on right now. And yet it is a real part of all of our lives. Doing your work happens in both the big and small ways but it is all significant. No matter what the work in front of you is, it takes grit and courage. It takes intentional choice and reframing our perspectives. Maybe the work you need to do is internal- learning to forgive or to let go of unhelpful behaviour patterns.
Your work as a mother is a huge part of this. Your kids were given to you for a reason. You are brave and will figure it out! Just remember that you aren’t in this alone. This may be your chance to get connected in with a MOPS group and to walk alongside others also doing this work.
We fight discouragement and fear by actively seeking out joy. Joy is a decision about how you will respond to life with all of its ups, downs and in-betweens. It takes courage. The best thing about joy? It’s contagious. When you start pursuing joy, you change the atmosphere around you too. This is your year to know deeply that you were made for more than anxiety, depression and fear; and you can share that reclaimed joy with others.
May your holiday season be filled with fun, laughter and peace. We will see you back here in February when the blog returns for another MOPS year, as we ‘Decide to Rise’.
