We knew the second we arrived at the WA MOPS Leadership Conference on Friday night that we were in for some FUN! The bright balloons, crazy hats and fluorescent leg warmers set the scene for what was in store.
We were blessed to have MOPS Australia Board Chair, Karen Dickson, who presented this year’s Hands of MOPS award to Katrina Rintoul from Bridgeley MOPS, Northam. It was very evident that Katrina is a dedicated woman who is highly respected among her peers. It was inspiring to hear of the lives she has touched and the work she has done over the years.
Next year’s theme ‘To The Full’ was launched spectacularly. We heard from our WA State Leader, Catherine Begley, and Region Leaders, Emma Weidermann and Leigh Amoraal on Having More Fun, Fearing Less and Finding Our People. Each topic was brilliantly introduced with a relevant activity or game that resulted in fits of laughter (who discovered they could hula hoop?!) and some real soul-baring. These women all spoke from the heart and shared practical ways to live our lives ‘To The Full’.
We returned Saturday morning and joined in a beautiful time of worship. It was so special to be with fellow Christian women singing praises to our mighty King. No better way to kick start the day!
Cherie Macchiusi’s session on Being A Fun Leader was incredibly uplifting and relatable. As leaders, we were challenged to work as a team, to lead from a place of rest, to be unoffendable and to overall have fun TOGETHER while working towards a goal.
As Cherie said, “Leadership is spelled FUN. Friends United Never defeated.”
“A full schedule is NOT a full life – it is just a full schedule.” This is just one of the little nuggets of wisdom we took away from our keynote speaker, who was none other than our Board Chair, Karen Dickson. ‘To The Full’ is from John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. Karen’s talk was a wonderful reminder that we can only experience life in abundance when we know the goodness and steadfast love of our Saviour.
The creative activity was colourful, fun and involved melting things! It was rather satisfying watching the crayons melt and create beautiful patterns on our canvas. A simple yet impressive craft activity we can replicate in our MOPS groups too.
The food this year was phenomenal. I’m confident all tastes and dietary needs were catered for! Well done and thank you to all involved in catering for this year’s event.
Thank you to all the wonderful people involved in planning and organising such a successful event. And a huge thank you to New Spring Church for hosting us all. We left conference thoroughly uplifted and prepared for an abundance of fun and living life to the full in the coming MOPS year!
