Help! I’m new to the team

What on earth was I thinking?

Have you bravely stepped out and taken a leadership position on a team, and now are thinking “What have I done”?  Are you wondering where to start?  What to do first?

Firstly, and importantly, congratulations on joining your leadership team!   You are poised to start on a journey that will not only impact the lives of mums in your community,  but will also help develop and grow your own leadership skills.  We are so thankful for you, and so excited you have taken this step.

It is not accident you are in this role.  You are not here just because no-one else will do it  (even if that is how it seems).  God has a plan for your life, and this position is part of His plan.  He has already been preparing you for this journey, and He will be with you all along the way –  God equips those He calls.

Here are some ideas to help you get started in your MOPS leadership:

1.  PRAY!

Ask God to prepare and help you.  Ask God for wisdom and creativity.   Seek His guidance and direction.

2. READ YOUR POSITION HANDBOOK

Your Coordinator may have given you the handbooks already, but if not you can easily download them here on the MOPS Australia website. Hard copies can also be purchased from the MOPS office.   These are a wonderful source of information, containing a job description and plenty of practical ideas about your role.

3. ASK QUESTIONS & GET CONNECTED

Once you’ve read your handbook, talk with your Coordinator about what she wants you to do.  If there is something you don’t  understand, ask about that.  It’s okay to ask questions – nobody knows everything when they start.  Don’t be afraid to make suggestions, either.  You bring to the position your own gifts, personality and a fresh perspective.  You might have some great ideas that no one has thought of!

There are other places you can get information as well.  Two great places to check out are the leadership sections and forums on both the MOPS Australia website and the MOPS International website.  Don’t forget your Regional Coordinator – she would love to hear from you and support you too.

You are not alone in your Leadership position.  There are other Leaders around the country who are doing just what you are doing!  You can meet them at Regional Training Days and Conferences.  As well as networking with other leaders, at these events you will receive leadership training, inspiration and practical ideas.

So what’s next?

This is the big one.

Ready?

4. JUST DO IT

Uh huh.  It’s that simple.  Just do it.  Trust God and step out and do the role.  You’ll be amazed how God will use you!

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,

to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
