Queensland Conference 2016

18 August 2016

Trialing a new format for the Queensland MOPS Conference, a group of 70 (seventy)… Yes, you did read it right… 70! MOPS ladies met at Calvary Family Church in Shailer Park for a Friday evening/Saturday day retreat.  Groups travelled from near (Sunnybank) and far (Atherton) to be inspired.

Qld conf scaledFriday night was the Gala Dinner after which Vanessa Ralph introduced ‘We are the Starry Eyed’ our 2017 MOPS Theme!  What a fun night had by all!  There were some fabulous Dame Edna look alike glasses floating around and plenty of bling to make the room sparkle.  Amongst the events of the evening a very graceful lady received the 2016 Hand of MOPS Award.  Congratulations Lynne Prideaux; it was so well deserved.

Our conference was again MCd by the scintillating personality that is Rachael Carter.  Saturday brought us a time of worship led by Belinda & Anneke and some great speakers.  Thank you Cherie Macchiusi for travelling all the way from Perth to delve deeper into our 2017 Theme and share your wisdom.

A few thoughts from Cherie’s address:

WONDER: When was the last time you were swept up with Wonder?

HOPE: Hope is the opposite of fear. Hope casts out fear.  Hope is a trustworthy anchor for our souls

KINDNESS: Kindness changes the behaviour and response of the one who receives it.  One act of kindness can change the whole dynamic between people.

It was also our pleasure to have the company of Pastor Anne Graham to encourage us to ‘Just keep going!’  If we believe in what we do, difficulty will never stop us. Anne pointed out that there was not one woman in the group of 70 there who wasn’t a world influencer.  We were thankful for her encouragement to keep ‘fiercely flourishing’.

Two separate testimonies were told, along with the group time for each elective that makes up the MOPS teams, led by some great ladies who know how to serve!  We also heard from two of our MUMSnext representatives, Camille and Kirsteen.  Not forgetting a fabulous morning tea and lunch home baked by probably most of the 70 who attended!

As is tradition we closed off with a lively auction and lots of ‘Thank You’s.

So there was 2016 Conference… a most enjoyable time of fellowship and encouragement.  As if you needed a reason to come… See you in 2017.
