My friends will tell you that I’m not usually stumped for words but…today I’m feeling a bit nervous. This is my first blog post in my new role as Blog Administrator for M♡PS Australia. I’m pretty sure I don’t know what I’m doing yet but, if you’ll have me, I’m happy to stay and give it my best shot.
I live in a lovely part of Adelaide with my husband, 6 of our 7 children and a budgie named George. Ours is a blended family and the technical breakdown is 3 of ‘his’ children, 2 of ‘mine’, and 2 of ‘ours’ – in that order (note: the budgie is a ring-in). I have been involved with M♡PS Modbury for the last 6 years in the role of Coordinator, and Mentor. I also guest speak at M♡PS groups and events.
My introduction to M♡PS though, was back in 2001 when I moved to Nhulunbuy, heavily pregnant with my first child. My time in Nhulunbuy M♡PS was a treasured gift to me as a struggling and isolated first time mum, and held me in good stead for future years – especially as I went on to later become a M♡PS team member.
I think it is important that we mums figure out what it is that is important to us in life and live aligned with those values. I believe that when we remove the unnecessary from our lives we make room for the important to speak to us. A year or two ago, with that in mind, I came up with 3 words to describe my mission:
pray . write . speak
Woven into this is the fact that I am passionate about reaching other mums and equipping and empowering them in their journey. This new role of Blog Administrator is congruent with my personal mission.
…and that brings us to this moment in time.
Coming into a new year, we want this blog to be place where you can read something that is relevant to all Mums of Preschoolers regardless of whether they currently attend a M♡PS group or ….Heaven forbid!… don’t even know M♡PS exists yet!
We want this page to be an extension of a M♡PS morning – a safe place to ask big questions, a ‘girlfriend’ voice – and a page you’d feel comfortable recommending to all your ‘Mum-of-Preschooler’ friends.
I recently held a seminar for M♡PS mums and the resounding comment from most of the attendees was that they had only recently found out about M♡PS and really wished they had known about it at the start of their mothering journey.
This year I hope you will work with me to change that. This year I hope you will talk M♡PS to your friends and share the M♡PS Australia Blog on your social media pages so that more Mums just like you and me, can discover M♡PS for themselves.
‘Because better Mums make a better Australia‘ – this is why we do what we do.
Have a wonderful week. Do check back in next Monday for the latest news and a word from our Managing Director Lexia Smallwood.
’til then, keep going, you’re not alone.
p.s. Heres a picture of me for your amusement. (Here I am lying on a bed in the emergency department at 1 AM on Christmas morning 2014 because I got poked in the foot with a stick. Long and very silly story I must share it with you sometime!)
