Welcome to the start of the new MOPS year! You’ve either just had your first MOPS meeting – or you’ll be having it very soon.
Our theme this year calls on you and your fellow team members to be brave as you lead your MOPS group while at the same time juggling the needs of your family, the house, your church and perhaps paid employment. We are asking you and all the mums in your group to be brave – to ask those niggling questions, to have meaningful conversations and to achieve goals.
It will be a journey that calls for courage. But it will also be a journey of discovery about yourself and what you are capable of. Memories are wonderful things! It’s lovely to reflect on the past. But sometimes our memories get in the way. Memories about times when things went wrong or when we made mistakes. If we focus on the bad times it can drain our will to try again.
Our theme verse for this MOPS year begins with the words, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past”!
If something in your past is slowing you down, defeating your resolve to try new things, then forget it! Don’t let past mistakes lead to present disappointments. Don’t dwell on the negatives. Focus on God. The verse has a really positive conclusion. It reminds us that our God has the power to make “a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert”. You can accept challenges and take reasonable risks in the knowledge that this powerful God is with you.
For some of you, venturing into 2015 has meant a step of faith – taking you out of your comfort zone and into new roles. We have six new MOPS groups starting this year and many new Coordinators taking on leadership in existing groups. A very warm welcome to those churches and those Coordinators! Thank you for taking up the challenge and being brave. You will be such a blessing to the mothers in your MOPS group. And you will grow every step of the way. And at the end of this year, or the next, or the next, you will be thoroughly equipped to guide another mum in making this brave decision to carry on the good work in your MOPS group.
And while you’re on your MOPS journey, don’t forget that MOPS Australia is here to support you – with information, theme materials, MOPShop product, website resources and training. MOPS Field Staff in your area are keen to assist your group to flourish – or to help you start a new MOPS group in your church.
