This is the Stuff

18 November 2013

When I spoke at the NSW Conference I shared this song by Francesca Batistelli, which resonates with me and is particularly relevant to next year’s theme, A Beautiful Mess. A few Leaders asked for the link to this clip so that they can show it in their group at the start of next year, so I thought I’d share it here for everyone!

As a mother, there is stuff that drives me crazy. Food under the table. Fingerprints on my laptop. School lunchboxes. The mess in the car. Need I say more? At every stage of our children’s development their are challenges and frustrations. I know God uses these mundane messes of motherhood though to teach me patience and show me what grace looks like. “In the middle of my little mess, I forget how big I’m blessed.

As a Leader, there is stuff that drives me crazy too. Expectations. Deadlines. An endless stream of emails. Disappointments. At every level of Leadership their are challenges and frustrations. These messes can’t be taken care of with a dustpan and brush. There isn’t even a magic eraser for the really stubborn issues! But through these messes God is still teaching me patience, and still showing me what grace looks like. “It might not be what I would choose but this is the stuff You use.

Food for thought:

  • Which messes are getting to you lately?
  • What are you learning about yourself in these moments?
  • What is God revealing to you about HIS character through these moments?
  • When do you need to remind yourself, either as a mother or as Leader, that “it’s not the end of the world”?!

This is our family theme song (along with “you don’t always get what you want). As you said it is easy to forget how blessed we are when dealing with life’s frustrations. Thanks for the reminder!

Thank you Cath! What a great song. The sentence “this is not what I would choose, but it’s what you will use” really resonates with me today after just being at my pre-admission appointment for my surgery next month. Bless you.
