Have A Musical Christmas

14 December 2012

The Christmas carols have been playing, and the decorations have been up in the shopping centres for weeks!  Here are some new releases for you to check out if you feel like adding something new to your Christmas music collection.

Steven Curtis Chapman –  Joy

First up is the wonderful singer/songwriter /musician Steven Curtis Chapman. The last time that he released a Christmas album was 1995, so it’s exciting that he’s released a new album for this year. On this album he’s included his take on traditional Christmas Carols and songs, alongside some new original songs. If you haven’t heard of him before he has been around Christian music circles for a long time, and has an amazing story to tell, about the loss of one of his children. By listening to one of his cds you can run through the whole gamut of emotions, through his powerful lyrics, and his incredible songwriting and musicianship!

Hillsong Live – We Have a Saviour

Last year Hillsong released a folk-style song for Christmas “Born is the King” (It’s Christmas). This year they have released a cd including Christmas songs, in a similar style. They have all been recorded over the last two years, and the well known songs each have their own unique feel about them. This is a really fun album for the whole family!

Voices of Angels – Gondwana Voices & Sydney Children’s Choir

If you’re looking for some classical Christmas music, then this cd is definitely worth a listen. The choirs featured on this cd are two of the finest choirs in Australia, consisting of talented young singersfrom around the country! They sing a wonderful mix of songs.  From a  Medieval chant, to some traditional Christmas carols, through to some pieces by Australian composers. The choirs are also accompanied by an orchestra, and there’s also a bit of humour thrown in too.
