Conference season has begun for MOPS Australia. Last week 65 leaders came together at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast for the Qld/NT Conference.
Here is Alice Kan’s wrap up of her first Qld/NT Conf…
We were blessed by some wonderful teaching by keynote speaker Robyn Robertson, who shared about her bold, loving and crazy family, as well as many encouraging stories from her association with MOPS over the years.
The main conference room, and the “chill-out” room were wonderfully and creatively decorated by a small group of talented ladies from Stafford MOPS. Many of these items have now made their way to different parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory, and were auctioned off at the very end of the weekend, which had many of us laughing until our tummies were sore!
On Saturday morning the team from Nhulunbuy (NT), who had travelled the furthest, put on a wonderful skit. Their game show scenario pitting the mothering skills of Martha Stewart against Marge Simpson had us in fits of laughter.
That night many took part in the No Mum(non)sense game show, which involved brains-a-thinking, noses-a-sticking, legs-a-running and the all-important task of mouths-a-chewing…on chocolate! There was also evidence that the chill-out room became a nail salon after midnight…
Leadership electives were inspiring and encouraging, with experienced leaders, new leaders and leaders-yet-to-be all sharing and learning from each other. Though Marg Sanders wasn’t able to join us it was wonderful to see what she and Donna Hill (our National Field Staff Officer) were up to via video in the USA. In their absence, board member Rev. Paddi Mullan spent some time with us, and announced that he will be sharing the vision of MOPS at the Uniting Church Queensland Synod during October, which is very exciting! Paddi also presented the Hands of MOPS Award.
It was wonderful to see the very first edition of Better Mum magazine, and receive a copy in our welcome bags. We were also able to purchase extra copies to take back to our groups, as well as some other useful resources from the MOPShop.
What a blessing it was to be worshipping with over 50 other women, in song throughout the weekend, and at the moving communion service on Sunday morning in which we were all blessed by receiving the Father’s Love Letter.
Many thanks to our convenor Jillian Ross, and her husband and media guru Murray Ross! In fact everybody who attended made it an inspirational weekend, not to mention the kitchen staff who allowed us all a few nights off cooking. Praise God for the wonderful ways in which He spoke to us all throughout the whole weekend…through friendships old and new, teaching, laughter, prayer and fellowship, and encouraging us all on the journey of being BOLD, LOVING and SENSIBLE!
